What is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel is a cosmetic procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove dead skin cells and stimulate the growth of new, healthier skin. It is used to improve skin texture, tone, and appearance.
Types of Chemical Peels
Superficial Peels (AHA/BHA): Glycolic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid peels that gently exfoliate the top layer. Minimal downtime. Ideal for acne, dullness, and mild pigmentation.
Medium Peels (TCA): Trichloroacetic acid penetrates deeper for more significant improvements in wrinkles, pigmentation, and acne scars. 5–7 days downtime.
Deep Peels (Phenol): For severe sun damage and deep wrinkles. Done under medical supervision with extended recovery.
What Conditions Does It Treat?
- Acne and acne scars
- Melasma and pigmentation
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Sun damage and tanning
- Rough, dull skin texture
What to Expect
Before the peel, your skin is prepped with a pre-peel regimen for 2 weeks. During the procedure you may feel mild tingling or stinging. Superficial peels have no downtime; medium peels cause 5–7 days of peeling. Multiple sessions (4–6) spaced 3–4 weeks apart are usually recommended for optimal results.
